Dawg River Radio Rides The Stream

Welcome to the Eclectic Music Station of the All Digital Radio Network, a.k.a. Dawg River Radio. We hope you enjoy listening to this Musical Gumbo as much as Sir Darryl and I enjoy putting it here for you.

I’m Manny “Dawg Riva” Rivers and I’m the Quartermaster on this ship, meaning .. I steer the bugger and do the navigation that will get us to where we’re going. Where are we goin’, you might ask. Everywhere, I might answer, if I had the slightest clue. A little background may help.

Dog River (from the original French Riviere Au Chien)is a real river (albeit small) that discharges into Mobile Bay, a tidal estuary on the north shore of the Gulf Of Mexico. Which means, one can begin a journey from Dog River and sail anywhere, that their vessel, knowledge, skill and imagination will take them.

What I aim to do (besides misbehave) with DRR is take you on a musical journey with this vessel, which Sir Darryl has so kindly provided, along with my knowledge & imagination (and yours as time goes by) and your time and patience. I mention patience, because I’m certain that there will be music here that doesn’t suit your fancy. But with patience, you’ll find gems you love and treasures you’ve not imagined.

The inspiration for this “Eclectic” format is taken from West Coast Underground Radio stations like KMPX and KSAN in San Francisco, KPPC in Pasadena and KCAC in Phoenix, AZ back in the later 60′s and very early 70′s.

The “on air talent” from these stations, legendary figures like Tom Donohue, B. Mitchell Reed and William Edward Compton originated, championed and perfected “freeform” non-commercial (unless they wanted to promote something they enjoyed) FM Radio. The college “freeform” radio you hear today .. owe their existence to men and women like Tom Donohue and the others I’ve mentioned. They would play anything, anytime and you never knew what you were liable to hear on a given day or “show”.

If you think you would like listening to a mix of old and new Rock, Blues, R&B, Soul, Zydeco, Jazz. World Music including Reggae,  maybe a spot of Country here and there and even Gospel; Then Dawg River Radio .. is your Huckleberry. Hell there may even be a Marching Band, who knows!!
